About BYD Auto Hungary

On 22 December 2023, BYD announced the construction of a new energy vehicle production base in Szeged, Hungary, which will be built in phases. The new production base is planned to adopt globally advanced process equipment and highly automated production processes to create a world-leading new energy vehicle manufacturing base.

Job Description

As a Safety Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting, developing, implementing, and monitoring the factory’s occupational safety, EHS, fire protection, environmental protection, risk management, accident prevention, training, audit, and compliance activities. You will work closely with production, logistics, engineering, maintenance, construction, suppliers, and management teams to ensure that factory operations comply with Hungarian EHS legislation, internal standards, safety requirements, and company procedures.

Responsibilities

1. Develop, implement, and maintain factory EHS, occupational safety, fire protection, environmental protection, and safety production regulations, procedures, systems, and standards in line with Hungarian legal requirements and company policies.

2. Conduct regular risk assessments, hazard identification, hidden danger inspections, workplace safety audits, 5S inspections, and safety checks covering production areas, logistics areas, machinery, electrical systems, fire protection equipment, hazardous chemicals, special equipment, suppliers, and construction activities.

3. Develop preventive and corrective measures, follow up on rectification actions, track implementation status, define responsible departments where needed, and ensure that identified safety, environmental, and operational risks are properly closed.

4. Organize, support, and deliver safety training, EHS education, fire protection training, emergency drills, safety awareness activities, and qualification assessments to improve employees’ safety awareness and emergency response capabilities.

5. Investigate, analyze, report, and manage work-related accidents, fire incidents, emergency situations, safety violations, labor discipline violations, and non-compliances, and define measures to prevent recurrence.

6. Support occupational health, environmental protection, waste management, hazardous waste handling, PPE compliance, emergency equipment inspection, safety documentation, EHS records, audit reports, annual safety objectives, management plans, and compliance-related reporting.

7. Cooperate with related departments, suppliers, external parties, and management, ensure compliance with internal procedures, operational standards, legal requirements, and safety regulations, and complete other job-related tasks assigned by the direct superior.

Requirements

1. Bachelor’s degree or relevant secondary/higher education in Safety Engineering, Occupational Safety, Fire Protection, Environmental Protection, EHS, Industrial Safety, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field; relevant local safety or EHS qualification is an advantage.

2. Relevant professional experience in occupational safety, EHS, environmental protection, fire protection, industrial safety, construction safety management, production safety, supplier safety supervision, or factory safety operations is preferred; senior-level roles require proven experience in safety management and cross-functional coordination.

3. Hungarian language knowledge is required for daily work; English knowledge is preferred, especially for documentation, reporting, audits, system use, and cooperation with international teams.

4. Strong knowledge of Hungarian EHS legislation, occupational safety and environmental regulations, fire protection requirements, safety standardization, risk assessment, accident investigation, emergency planning, hazardous chemicals, special equipment, machinery, electrical safety, 5S, EHS reporting systems, MS Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

5. Responsible, precise, proactive, safety-conscious, and solution-oriented personality with strong communication, coordination, training, organizational, problem-solving, stress-handling, teamwork, and execution skills.
